Just got wind of a new project, in the form of a Firefox plug-in, that hopes to release us from the bondage of pre-generated links: Hyperwords.
The concept seems simple enough… Every word on your web page becomes a link (conceptually).
Practically speaking, I’m sure that the usefulness of any such enabling technology is more limited than would first appear… I’m sure there is a limit to the usefulness of Google searching on articles, or proper surnames. Still, given the option to treat each discrete element on a webpage like a searchable/thesaurusable (is that a word? See! I could already use it!) object, sets us further down the road towards the original vision for hypertext.
Is that a good thing?
Well see, I suppose.
